Teeth Grinding (Bruxism) & Night Guards
Bruxism is the habit of grinding or clenching the teeth, often during sleep. A custom-made night guard protects the teeth from wear and cracking; it is made from impressions of your teeth, usually over two short visits.

What it is
Many people grind or clench their teeth at night without knowing it. Over time this can wear and crack teeth, make them sensitive, and leave the jaw muscles tired or sore. A custom-made night guard is a simple, non-invasive way to protect your teeth while you sleep.
Signs you may be grinding
Worn, flattened or chipped edges, sensitive teeth, a tired or aching jaw in the morning, headaches around the temples, or a partner hearing grinding at night. We often spot the wear patterns during a routine check-up, before you notice any symptoms.
How a night guard helps
A night guard is a thin, custom-fitted appliance worn over the teeth at night. It does not stop the habit itself, but it takes the forces of grinding so your teeth do not, and many people find their jaw feels more relaxed. It is made from precise impressions so it fits comfortably and stays in place.
Jaw joint (TMJ) problems
Clicking, pain or limited opening of the jaw can be related to grinding and clenching. We assess the jaw joints and muscles, advise on simple self-care, and where appropriate refer you to a specialist.
Step by step
Assessment
We check your teeth for wear and cracks, and examine the jaw joints and muscles.
Impressions
Precise impressions or scans are taken so the guard fits your teeth exactly.
Fitting
We fit the guard, adjust the bite so it feels even, and show you how to put it in and clean it.
Follow-up
We check the guard and your teeth at your regular check-ups.
Materials & equipment we use
Custom night guard
A thin, durable appliance made for your mouth — more comfortable and stable than shop-bought guards.
Precise impressions
Make sure the guard sits evenly on the teeth.
After your visit
- Rinse the guard after each use and brush it gently with a soft brush and cold water — hot water can warp it.
- Store it dry in its case, away from heat and pets.
- Bring it to your check-ups so we can check the fit and wear.
- If it feels tight, loose or cracks, contact us rather than adjusting it yourself.
GESY (ΓεΣΥ)

What our patients say
“I recently visited DentLux Clinic, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The clinic itself is modern, clean, and inviting, which immediately put me at ease. The staff was incredibly friendly and professional, making sure I felt comfortable every step of the way.
The dentist took the time to explain every procedure in detail, which I really appreciated. It’s clear they prioritize patient care and comfort. The treatment itself was seamless, and I left feeling well taken care of.
Another highlight was the advanced technology they use—it made the process faster and more efficient than I expected.
If you’re looking for a dental clinic that combines expertise, professionalism, and a warm atmosphere, I highly recommend DentLux Clinic!”Odysseas A. · Google
Questions everyone asks
Will a night guard stop me grinding?+
Not by itself — it protects the teeth from the forces of grinding. Many people also find their jaw feels more relaxed. Stress, sleep and some medicines can play a role, so we discuss those too.
Can I use a guard from the pharmacy?+
Shop-bought guards can be bulky and may not fit evenly. A custom guard is thinner, stays in place and is adjusted to your bite.
How long does a night guard last?+
It depends on how strongly you grind. Many last several years; we check it at each check-up and tell you when it needs replacing.
Can stress cause teeth grinding?+
Stress and anxiety are common contributors, along with sleep problems, caffeine, alcohol and some medicines. Being aware of daytime clenching and relaxing the jaw can help alongside the guard.
Can grinding damage my fillings or crowns?+
Yes. Grinding can wear or chip fillings, crowns and veneers as well as natural teeth, which is why we often recommend a night guard after this kind of treatment.
